I love to style food and make it fun! I’m not a pastry chef, haven’t been to culinary school…I’m just a gal who loves to nourish her body with fun, healthy ingredients!
My hobby of baking and creating healthy twists on the more traditional recipes became an addiction once I discovered the world of Instagram. I had never heard of ‘nice cream’ or even tasted a ‘raw dessert’ but that’s where my journey of discovering uncomplicated recipes and easy to make desserts/treats began. Perhaps it had even started before that as I have always enjoyed baking and cooking healthier recipes. My husband, children and co-workers are typically my guinea pigs for the new creations I make!
When Tiffanie asked me to write a post about some yummy, healthy food ideas just before Christmas and New Year I thought, eeeeeek…plum pudding drizzled in custard, roast turkey smothered in sweet, cranberry sauce, roast potatoes, gingerbread men, mince pies, CaNdY cAnEs, cHoColAtEs, aLcoHol arggghhhhhhhhhh!
But one of the great things about getting older is that I have learnt a few things along the way in regards to nutrition and in the way I feel about food. Like many, I felt guilty for making bad food choices (hellllooooo chocolate chip cookies) but one cheat meal or one block of chocolate will not ruin my progress just like one healthy meal won’t give me a six pack!
We know that nutrition can make all the difference but being healthy is also about balance and being able to eat treats occasionally without the guilt. Celebrate enjoying food for both nourishment and pleasure.
Below are some of my favourite snack recipes that I personally think taste great and have some amazing ingredients in them as well. Husband and child approved too!
14 Medjool dates
2 Tablespoons of natural peanut butter
Blend away and freeze for when that sugar craving hits!
Disclaimer: They may resemble animal droppings, but they taste so good!
Raspberry ‘nice’ cream
2 Frozen bananas
Handful of frozen raspberries
Blend away and enjoy!
Chocolate frozen smoothie
1 -2 frozen bananas
250mls almond milk
Teaspoon of cacoa powder
Blend away…better than a McDonalds thick shake!
Nothing beats Ice-cream and chocolate topping for dessert!
2 Large frozen bananas
Dragon fruit (or seasonal berries)
70% Dark Chocolate
Blend a large frozen banana with a little coconut water for base. Blend another frozen banana, dragon fruit (or berries) with a bit of coconut water. Place layers in mold and freeze for an hour. Top with 70% dark chocolate.
